Why do you like to host a foreign student?
Because we like sharing and exchanging our culture with that of the foreign students.
What do you do in your free time?
I like spending time with my kids. We do homeworks together and when we are done, we like playing together. (Mother) I like to take a break and nap because I don't have kids to play with. Hahaha! (grandmother) As a family, we get together all the time and just talk about our days.
What do you do to make your foreign students feel at home?
Learn to serve them. Make them feel as if they are in their home and with their own family. Offer good service. Have conversations with the students. Teach the students our culture.
What is the best of Xela?
It's historic central district and its customs.
What's your family like?
We are really strong knit family. And we are a big happy fammily. Today (Saturday), I'm going to a bible study with my kids at 2:30pm and then I will do homework with them. We will go out to a party tonight too!
What would you do if you have only one more week of life?
Live simply and try to be happy by sharing with those in close and dear.
What's your favorite food, music, movie, television show, color, travel location and candies?
Oh, I like chow mein and Alan (father) likes fishes and all kinds of liquors hahaha! Maria Fernanda (daughter) likes roasted chicken and Alejandro (son) likes BBQ. Musics... I listen to all kinds of music. Alan likes marimba, Andrea likes something romantic and Alans brother likes regeton. I like watching telenovelas (soap opera) of course! I like a horror movies. I always wanted to go to Italy. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to go there. I saw in movies the city of Venice and I felt in love. And guys there are kind of cute too : ) My favorite color... I like red and pink. I eat all kinds of candies. If I don't eat it, rest of my family will hahaha.
Who is/was the most influential person in your life?
My grandparents from my mother's side, because they taught me lots of habits and examples of how to take a stand against life and I put that into practice with my kids.
What is the Guatemala's biggest social issue?
The extreme poverty and the unemployment.
What do you propose to solve the Guatemala's problems?
Create source of jobs. Make those in authority more conscious of their duty to serve all the Guatemalans, but not take advantage of them.
