El Globo Foundation (File size: 1 MB; Run time: 1.2 min) It has been more than fifty years ago when Don Angel and Doña Emilia were married. From this marriage, Pan El Globo came to life. Since they were very poor and did not have a mean of transportation, when Don Angel made the bread, Doña Emilia carried a big basket full of bread on top of her head. She walked through unpaved roads from five to fifteen kilometers every day to deliver the bread to the poorest people at the lowest price possible. The time has passed and the bakery grew with their seven children and with the blessing of God. Through the passage of time, we have seen the necessity to nourish the children. Since three years ago, we have been visiting a suburban area of Quetzaltenango which is known as Llano del Pinal. There are real life stories like these: "He is José Luis who usually does not attend school. He has other siblings and his parents are very poor. His father sows vegetables and his mother sells them at a market. Since they do not have money to open a store, she arrives early in the street every day to find a place to sit and sell. From what she sells, they can afford to eat only twice a day and when she cannot sell much, they only eat tamales and chile. " "She is Estrella Marina. Estrella does not go to school. She has barely enough money to eat. Her father is always drunk and he mother sells spinaches in the market. They are very poor." "I would like to introduce Aury. She is two years old. Cony met her when she was a baby. Her mother is seventeen years old. Aury is now living with Doña Felipa, her grandmother and her aunts. Aury is a daughter of an irresponsible man. This is the house where she used to live with her mother. Because the young mother could not bare the poverty and the unfair treatments, she decided to migrate to the United States to work and to give a future to her daughter." Stories like these are repeated every day in Llano del Pinal: Children without shoes but with a smile that appreciates a God, the life and the evergreen scenery and the natural environment. El Globo Foundation was established in 2003. Although Llano del Pinal was surrounded by natural beauty, we realized that the women did not know how to read nor write. Thus, we began to teach them and made nutritious bread, a bread with soy and delivered to them free of charge for the benefit of various families. Guatemala is a poor country. It is poor in economy, health, housing, employment and in some rural areas in our department of Quetzaltenango. El Globo bakery has many years of bread production. Yet, we have seen how little nutrition the bread has. There are various bakeries. Some bakeries are making bread at accessible price to people in poverty but the bread has very low level of nutrition. Others offer breads with better nutrition and higher prices that are sought out by the upper class of the city. Because our job is to serve the people in rural area as God gave us the opportunity to overcome the challenges and fight for a better future for our children, we have never forgotten the poverty that our grandparents and great grandparents have lived. These roots of ours kept us conscious of the necessity of the people we serve. We are active in the Llano del Pinal, where extreme poverty reigns the region affecting the children. They walk the unpaved roads without shoes. With dirty face and little food, these children are growing up with parasites and lack of nutrition. Among them (majority of them are boys), very few are able to attend the schools by the government. Those who could come to the school often fall asleep in the classes for lack of food. It is because their mothers work in the city as domestic servants in which they are paid only fifteen quetzals for a day while the men are being irresponsible and getting themselves drunk. Who we are: We are a foundation that strengthens the nutrition in the rural area, specifically in Llano del Pinal. We make bread with soy for the nutrition of the children. Thanks to the sales in the city, we can deliver our bread to the children in the schools in Llano completely free of charge. We have other services also: We collect and donate foods for the local community. We collect and donate clothes, shoes, etc. Medical help with other foundations. Literacy education. Nutritious cooking courses, etc. BENEFITING THE COMMUNITY OF THE LLANO DEL PINAL. Our Bread: We have produced bread with best nutrition at low price. Our main ingredient is the soy for its nutritional value. 100% Natural and Nutritious Thanks for your help, now the bread production is more efficient. In the past we were working with machines invented by our grandfathers to do our works. The necessity in this area is great and the economic resources are insufficient. Now we are trying to cover the nutritional needs, but we know that the schools, the education, and training and the lack of opportunities for these children are at low level. Now, we are moving on together for the improvement of the Llano del Pinal. |
